Here’s something I got in my mailbox today. It’s from my ex-hosting partner- Exa Bytes Network Sdn Bhd (Co No: 576092-T).
With the economy contracting (another term for less money to spend on unwanted things), many companies are looking at cheaper ways to advertise their wares. Hence, there’s no other medium that offers such good bang for the ringgit other than the Internet, and to add more bang-bang to the ringgit, these companies are even willing to pay CASH on top of their online marketing gimmicks.
Anyway, here’s how a portion of the email from Exabytes sounds like:
Alright let’s move to the latest updates on our Angel:
We are going to run a contest whereby you just have to blog about Exabytes in your blog and you will get RM 20 straight into your angel’s accounts! Yes, this is for real. You do not have to refer anyone to buy our hosting. You just have to post a simple blog about Exabytes, what you think of us, what you wish us to improve, etc.
By the way, one submission per angel ya. So start to blog now and submit your application via this link:

Do read on the Terms and Condition for the contest in the URL given above.
Angel is an affiliate program they’ve got going a few years back, and back then, their services was commendable. That’s why yours truly also signed up with their affiliate program back in 2005 and became one of the devils, I mean angel… I remember I had to manually email them about a few referrals I made, since their system was not able to track those leads I sent them. So much for an affiliate system.
This new marketing gimmick from Exabytes could just be what I need to cash out my remaining stash of affiliate monies stuck in the Angel Program for as long as I can remember. It was stuck because I could barely hit the minimum RM400 payout threshold. With a single hosting plan that cost averagely about RM200, you must be wondering, “What?! You can even refer 2 customers?” I know, I know…shame on me, but I just can’t refer any of my friends to use a service which I personally had problem with. Hmm…maybe I can recommend it to ‘friends’ that are rated not so favorably in my book- that’s killing 2 birds with one ‘server’. The human mind can be so evil…
I was wondering why they labeled their affiliates ‘angles’, and used various heavenly terms in their affiliate program. One reason I presume could be their effort in balancing out the ‘hell’ Exabytes are putting their hosting customers through with their ‘questionable’ reliability. Fairy God-damned Mother anyone?
Anyway, one of the T&C’s listed on their new marketing program mentioned the following:
Your blog post must contain at least two hyperlink to Exabytes page “Exabytes.com.my“
You are warned in advance that putting up those links in exchange of RM20.00 could send your website’s PageRank down a few steps or directly to oblivion. Such an act would automatically qualify your post as a ‘Paid Review’, something Google does not encourage at all. Well, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t put those links. I would suggest you counter-offer Exabytes and tell them, “How about RM300, and on top of the 2 compulsory links, you get 1 more link for free?” I would like to think that the links on your site is worth more than 2 large McValue meals, not to mention the risk you are taking with the Big Brother of SEO.
Before I forget, I better include my entry post- http://www.meshio.com/2008/04/sick-of-exabytes/.
Even this post itself contained 2 links to Exabytes (evil grin)! I doubt I will get my RM20.00 of Hell-Bank Notes but at least I tried!
