If you look at it this way, the toll is one of the way to milk the People.
There are many other ways to milk the People, other than using toll. Toll is used because it’s a convenient way of milking the People.
Imagine, if there’s no toll, there could be:
1) Oxygen Tax- where everyone is taxed on the amount of oxygen they intake every month. No, holding your breath won’t help much.
2) Walking Tax- now, that’s a new tax for you taxpayers. The government realized that there are too many public transport commuters. And they cannot possibly tax public transport any more than they are doing right now, since the government need to protect their own cronies. So everyone of you not driving cars or paying any form of road tax will be billed a new tax- the Walking Tax. The tax will be computed based on the amount of steps taken by an average Malaysian in a year.
3) Sleeping Tax- Yeah, the government realized that a sleeping rakyat is a non-productive rakyat. Using statistics from the Department of Statistics, the government realized the rakyat is sleeping way more than they should and decided to impose a new sleeping limit. The government decided that all rakyat should not sleep more than 6 hours. Anymore than 6 hours, you will be taxed for every minute of not being productive to the country.
4) The Weight Tax- Oops, this might sound a little discriminative, but yet again, the Government decided that Rakyat who are overweight are in fact eating too much than they should (Hmm…I kinda of agree with them on this one). Every extra KG more than the stipulated in the National Weight Schedule will be taxed RM 10.00 per kg. Nope, no incentives will be given to underweight citizens. So much for the rational behind “The Weight Tax”.
So people, as you might have realized, I can go on with many more methods to milk the People.
You should now be aware of the fact that it’s not the toll that we should be worried about.
