Celebrities and Services

logo-celcom.gifI’ve never understood the link between celebrity and a product. If your product is good, I will be more than happy to continue using it and recommend them to my friends and I definitely don’t need a celebrity to tell me how I should feel about it.

Stop the nonsense. Save the Power Icons budget and reward me with lower SMS rate and lower call charges. Period.

Eh, wait, I don’t have a Celcom line, neither does John Terry nor Ryan Giggs :-P

Celcom (M) Bhd has unveiled English Premier League (EPL) football stars John Terry and Ryan Giggs as their latest Power Icons to further consolidate the company’s position in the telecommunications market.

A ‘Power Icon’ is usually a famous sports athlete or musician that Celcom contracts to promote its brand. Among Celcom’s original Power Icons in the sporting world were footballers Steven Gerrard, Michael Owen and Robert Pires.

  • Still going stupid... Celcom = TM, XL = TM, and both of them can't roam, a shame. What is football player got to do with teleco? Power? What kind of power here? Human power or the reception power? Reception need power or need a phone? Don't understand them la... Too much money to spend...
  • actually, i just thought about this yday in a convenience store at a petrol station.

i saw the packaging of our local junk food, bit depressing. the junkfood in taiwan are mostly endorsed by their stars, doesn't matter singers or actors or some tv host.

it depends on who they are targetting i guess. for junk food, most of them are catering to teenagers. as for taiwanese, no matter how old they are, they still act like teenagers har har

i guess the celcom campaign failed lor... but i would say the hotlink celebrity endorsement program = quite successful, once again because they are catering to the young idolising crowd.
  • Dude u r right all the celebrities are just a nonsense, although it has a lot of Power Icon but the rates are high and coverage a bit lame.
  • the better strategy is to team up with Apple iPhone .. "you have to use CELCOM is your want to activate your iPhone"...

if Celcom still prefers footballers as power icons, why not consider shooting a commercial using the iPhone as a "football". Kick the iPhone at the penalty spot .. showing the iPhone really scared ... " please to kick me" ..
  • sorry .. didn't check .. lots of typo

    1. if you want to activate your iPhone
    2. "Please don't kick my ass"
