Interesting…not long ago, Great Eastern launched the first medical policy that covers up to 100 years old, and now we have a new medical package that covers for stem cell transplants.
Insurance companies can get very creative at times.
MESDAQ-listed StemLife Bhd and Berjaya Sompo Insurance Bhd have started offering “StemGuard”, a medical insurance policy to cover hospital and surgical expenses arising from stem cell transplants that use baby cord blood.
Cord blood stem cells are “master” cells that can replace diseased cells in a patient with healthy cells through stem cell transplantation.
In a joint-statement released yesterday, StemLife and Berjaya Sompo said StemGuard’s coverage encompasses transplants for over 70 types of illnesses, should a StemLife client be diagnosed with any of those conditions opt for stem cell transplant.
