2 Expensive Bolts

expensivebolts03.jpgI was on a mission to get a Projector Wall Screen for the new office. It wasn’t difficult to locate one, I eventually booked my order with the Best Denki outlet located in 1-Utama’s new wing. It cost about RM 228.00 for the 60″x60″ sized wall screen.

I was pretty impressed with the speed of their delivery- it only took them 1 day to get the stuff. I don’t mind going there again to collect the bazooka-sized item. I inspected the item and have a quick browse at the manual booklet. Everything seemed in place.

Back in the office, I realized that to assemble the wall screen, I needed “2 expensive bolts” (as labelled in the manual). And to my surprise, I don’t see any “2 expensive bolts” nor any kind of bolt-looking objects. I called up the shop and asked about it, and ask them how am I suppose to attach the wall screen without the “expensive bolts”? The sales attendant told me to come over to their outlet again to talk to their Manager- a Miss Dorris.

Off I went again to the outlet, and paid another RM 1.00 for the parking. On reaching the counter, I showed Miss Dorris the manual and told her about my predicament. She photocopied the manual (which I later realized she only did it out of courtesy and never really had the intention of solving my problem). She then told me that the model I got did not come with the “expensive bolts”. I asked “What am I suppose to do with a wall screen that doesn’t come with the bolts as mentioned in the manual?” She did not answer my question and keep saying- “I will try to ask the warehouse people though I doubt they have it.” Great, that’s the kind of answers that makes you speechless. As I was trying to ask her if she has any other way to solve the problem, she looks away and just keep saying , ” I know…I know…but I don’t think the warehouse people has got it, I will try and ask for you la…”

Now, that really shows me how much this company cared for their customers. Once they got my business, they don’t really care if their products solved my problem. Lesson learnt- once you paid them the money, they treat you like dirt.

Pretty disappointed with the level of service given by one of the largest electrical outlet in Malaysia, I decided to take matters into my own hand. Of course, Miss Dorris had the cheek to instruct her sales attendant to tell me that the warehouse people had confirmed that the model I ordered does not come with “2 expensive bolts”. Nice acting though. Anyhow, I was already on my way to the nearest hardware shop and showed them the “expensive bolts” diagram and they quickly handed me 2 bolts that looks exactly the same as illustrated. Each of the expensive bolts cost me RM 0.40, yes, that’s RM 0.80 for TWO EXPENSIVE BOLTS. And for that, they didn’t even include it in the package when I first bought it and I had to search heaven and earth for 2 EXPENSIVE BOLTS that cost me RM 0.80 (if you noticed, it’s RM 0.20 cheaper than my parking fee at their outlet).

And to add to the drama, I called up the manufacturer of the wall screen (which I should have done earlier) and they told me all their wall screen sets are packed with “2 EXPENSIVE BOLTS“.

Miss Dorris, you should be fired!
