Here’s a summary of the preview report from K&N Kenanga on the upcoming Budget 2007.
- tough times ahead for property market (due to over supply and high interest rates), which might result in the reintroduction of RPGT exemption
- tax cut on corporate and personal level is highly unlikely
- implementation of the good and service tax (GST) will be postponed yet again
- projects to focus on the less developed regions- namely the Eastern Corridor and the Southern Johor Economy Region
- sin tax will be raised yet again at about 5-10% for tobacco and brewery sector (it was hiked 13% and 9% respectively in the year 2005)
- number forecast operators and and casino operators would be spared from the hike
