Yahoo! Account Compromised

Crap! I was so careless to have clicked on an url my friend sent me over the messenger.

It was an URL to a Geocities page and it required a typical yahoo login procedure.

WARNING: Please DO NOT enter your user name and password at the link below!

Nevertheless, I am still in the midst of recovering my password, and hopefully, there’s no damage done using my account. I’ve had this account for more than 7 years, and this is the first time I have done something so stupid… :-(

To all my dear readers, please be careful the links people sent you, especially those that requires login. “Phishing” definitely doesn’t just comes in the form of email. I learnt it the hard way.

Yeah man…I won’t be able to use all the services I had; the Yahoo! Groups I subscribed to, Yahoo Messengers, Yahoo Mails etc…

And the Security Team at Yahoo! is definitely NOT VERY HELPFUL…I can’t imagine that such a big name on the web do not have proper customer service… sucks…

On the upside, since I haven’t been logging into my Messenger, I find that I have plenty more time to read more books and complete more paperwork.

But still, this is the first time I felt how Yahoo! sucks…BIG time…

I don’t think Yahoo! could do much since verification of a customer is entirely dependant on the password. If you have a security question, you can use that feature to change the password and reclaim the ID, otherwise it’s gone.

It happened to me as well for my first Yahoo! account and the Yahoo! folk were prompt in their replies and offered consolation but had their hands tied understandably.

Yahoo! may not be perfect but then again, who is? :)

Thanks Dan for sharing your experience. Yes, that’s exactly what they keep asking me- Secret Answer to the question which I asked myself 7 years ago…

Sigh…this will teach me not to ask stupid questions again…

Yeah, I think there’s only two things I can do now:-

    a) boycott Yahoo! and never ever use any of their services from now on

    b) register a brand new account, with something like yow_chuan123@yahoo.com (sigh…)

Choice (a) means fighting against a giant internet conglomerate…so I guess I will stick with the latter one.

I am just worried about what these bozos is going to do with my original account.

How about never clicking another link, without asking the sender on whether they actually send it to you:)
