Creativity Trance

Was cleaning up my desk this evening when I saw my Wacom tablet in one of the drawers, piled under a huge stack of paper and documents. I took it up and wipe off the dusty surface and plug it into my Thinkpad.

As some of you who knew me personally, I have always had the urge to scribble on any surface if only I am given a pencil. Looking at the idling Wacom table, it took me a while to gather back my thoughts before I decide it’s time to polish my skills.

And off I went into a trance of artistic creativity…

I have been wanting to design a mascot for www.meshio.com. And so off I went with the first stroke. Splat!

Artistic Trance in Progress

Thoughout the process, I am still able to come up with the character rather spontaneously, but I can feel that there’s abit of rustiness in the strokes. Nevertheless, you be the judge.

It took me about an hour to finish this character. I haven’t have a name for it yet. This character has been derived from the sandy sea turtle that is believed to be the longest living creature on Earth. There’s a reason why I pick the turtle instead of dolphins, jellyfish or star fish. Will disclose more in the future.

Also, I hope with the addition of this mascot, I will be able to explain some of the financial terms and concepts in a more entertaining manner, something along the line of pictorial guidebook or illustrative financial companion. I have seen a book that explained non-household financial terms like real rate of interest, correlation coefficients, inflation and standard deviation using comic as the delivery medium, and it sure does helps to sustain the reader’s interest and attention with the nice artwork. Hence, the inspiration to create this character as a starting point for this blog.

Hey dude, glad to see you haven’t totally left your artistic side in the dark. Love the strokes. You still have it. As a matter of fact, I think your idea of a pictorial/illustrative guidebook is really playing to your strengths. Cool character, hows about “Master tur-yoda”.
