Starting March 2006, Malaysians have another new financial crisis to overcome since the hike of petrol price recently (a ridiculous extra 30 sen)! Even as Petronas recorded profit in year 2005, we don’t see much help from the national petroleum giant in easing the consumer’s burden.

That said, as oil prices soar, Petronas has posted record profits. For the year ended 31 March 2005, the group registered a pre-tax profit of RM58 billion, a whopping increase of 55 per cent from the previous year. Its profit margin increased as well: return on average capital employed rose from 29 per cent to 37 per cent for the year ended 31 March 2005. Shareholders’ funds rose to RM129 billion as at 31 March 2005 while Petronas’ cash and fund investment balance soared from RM54 billion the previous year to RM75 billion as at 31 March 2005.
Everything is rising, except salary! And our dear DPM are telling workers not to job-hop. If you haven’t got yourself some 3 months bonus to buffer or at least some 10% salary increment, you might not be job-hopping but you will be better off hop off your office building soon.
Easier said than done, especially for those who never had to work under Chinaman companies.
Looks like it’s time to update your resume.doc again!
