Dispensables

A friend of mine told me about how the culture of his company encourages everyone to think of themselves as dispensable.

Depends on who use it, the impact can vary, and if a CEO of a company can say aloud to the entire staff members that everyone is dispensable, I think “dispensable” can suddenly mean alot to everyone.

When you mentioned anyone is dispensable, you actually conveyed these points:-

1) You need the company more than the company need you.

2) Your skills and talents are not important to the company and thus you are probably hired for the sake of hiring.

3) The company is always right, and if you ever have any doubt about it, ask no question. The door is always open.

And indeed, IMHO, any company is dispensable too. ;-)

Well, " A friend of mine told me that the CEO of their company" was asking why everyone looks unhappy after he told everyone that "everyone is dispensable".
I believe the communication between human is two-ways. You live happier because you don't care. If the employee of the company look unhappy, I believe this is not because of they do not have the "passion" for the company (as what the CEO said) but something is wrong in the company. People look unhappy simply because they care and they are not happy with what they heard and how the company treat them.

I'm agree with JUST LEAVE!!!. But too bad I'm tied up by contract n got another 7 months to run.

We should only appreciate the company when the company appreciate us. Ya man, u r rite!!! a company is indeed "DISPENSABLES"
  • Sounds like my previous company. Was your friend in my previous company as well? Well, I did what everyone said. I left. Everyone should do the same thing too. Like the motto of brand name Nikie, Just Leave It!!!

The best way is not just leave, but also spread the word around extensively about this company so that it will get NO TALENTS to work for them.

They've already earned a notorious reputation of being a bad employer not just in the financial circle, soon every people in the IT circle will know not to work for them. I am glad I bailed out early from there.

Could not imagined what I would've said publicly to the man himself.
  • if i were working in such a company i would do as joo said. Just leave. How m i supposed 2 do well when theres an axe constantly hanging over my head? Some work pressure is good 2 keep u going, but this is a real threat. Mayb can sue the company 4 threatening its employees :P haha.

    Two words: Just leave.

As much money as the company gives to give perks/better remuneration packages to its employees, if the people leading the employees aren't proficient in people skills, then it is of no point.

Every business is a people business. You deal with people directly or indirectly. So if you can't deal with people, you are doomed to fail.
  • corporate life is sad. although i'd like to think not :P

Thats a common trait amongst Asian companies. They treat the employees that way: If you don't like your job, you can leave, there are thousands of others waiting to take your place...

    Baaaah.
  • I'm sure that company has a high employee turnover rate? ;)
