“The Fallen Path”- Modeling & Texuring a 3D Game Terrain

Latest piece of work, “The Fallen Path”, depicting a 256×256 bitmap texture and a total of 632 triangles. Completed in about 7 hours from concept to textured model. The most time consuming part is the UVW-Wrapping and texturing part…it has always been a bottleneck for me. The trick is to get everything seems right, but at the same time, working with the stupid limitation of a square texture bitmap. :-P

Well, if examined closely, this terrain is full of seams…hehe…it’s where you hide it that matters!

People should start appreciating the art of low polygonal modeling. It’s very similar in a way to Professor Strunk’s preaching on the English language:

“…a sentence should contain no unnecessary words, a paragraph no unnecessary sentences, for the same reason that a drawing should not have unnecessary lines and a machine no unnecessary parts…”

It’s good to be doing a bit of 3D again once in a while…
